Configure an External Logging Host Server to a Node

When GigaVUE HC Series and GigaVUE TA Series devices are added to GigaVUE‑FM, the default settings ensure that log records stream to the GigaVUE‑FM server and are written on the device’s file system in a messages file. Log records can be used to analyze the system behavior directly from the GigaVUE‑FM interface instead of needing to sign in to each device. When an external syslog server is configured, the device will send logged events through UDP, TCP, or SSH to the specified destination.

To configure an external logging host server:

1.   On the left navigation pane, click on go to Physical > Nodes.
2. In the Physical Nodes page, click the required cluster ID or the node for which you want to configure an external logging host server.
3. From the selected node page, go to Logs > Log Setting.

Note:  You can also access the Log Setting page from System > Settings > Global Settings > Logging.

4. Click Add Server. The Add Log Server quick view appears.
5. Select the required protocol: UDP, TCP, or SSH.
6. In the Server Address field, enter the IP address of the external server.
7. In the Port Number field, enter the port number.

Note:  For UDP, the port number is 514 and you cannot modify it.

8. In the Username field, enter the user name configured to access the external server.

Note:  This field is available only if you select the logging protocol as SSH.

9. From the Hosts drop-down list, select the host server that you want to configure.
10. Click OK. The host server is listed in the Log Setting page.
11. For the host server that you have configured, you can set up the minimum log level. From the Server Log Level drop-down list, select the minimum log level. For the list of log levels and their description, refer to Device Logging Levels.

You can choose to disable or delete the logging for a host server. Select the Disabled or Delete radio button to disable or delete the logging for the host server.
