Deploying Gigamon Cloud Suite for Pervasive Visibility on Nutanix Underlay using Native Service Chaining (6.1)
Introduction
Enterprise datacenters are transitioning to the Cloud space. Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure is one of the most sought after Cloud infrastructure for this transition. Nutanix is known for pioneering the HCI market, modernizing IT design and operations via a web-scale and distributed cloud architecture. Nutanix uses off-the-shelf servers to run all business-critical workloads and cloud-native applications. Nutanix not only serves as a platform for on-prem deployments but also provides scalability for future expansions into hybrid cloud and multi-cloud deployments as companies shift towards Software-Defined Data Centers (SDDC) and hyper-converged infrastructure. Without Nutanix, such migrations face many challenges, such as compatibility with other OEM products and solutions, parallel implementation across different platforms, additional licensing offsets, etc.
In this GVD, we will be discussing the implementation of Gigamon visibility solutions on Nutanix for the underlay workloads and leveraging the Nutanix native service chain functionality for tapping traffic. With the 6.1 release and introduction of V Series 2.0 for Nutanix, the mirrored traffic could be optimized and transformed using the GigaSMART applications in the V Series node to feed the Deep Observability implementations (tools) all across. All Gigamon implementations can be managed by the same Fabric Manager.

Design Topology
Design Overview
The design topology logically illustrates the deployment of Gigamon Cloud Suite in a Nutanix HCI infrastructure, and its VMs spread across multiple AHV nodes. The workloads being monitored are configured to be sent to the Gigamon V Series node where in the GigaSMART applications, such as Deduplication to optimize and transform the traffic before sending it to a security tool.
This GVD demonstrates the GigaVUE-FM orchestrated use of Gigamon core applications, it is also possible to deploy and configure Gigamon application intelligence suite using 3rd party orchestration where the traffic is acquired using GvTAP agents.
