SMT-HC3-C05 Module

The SMT-HC3-C05 module is a GigaVUE‑HC3 module blending GigaSMART intelligence and port capabilities into a single module. GigaSMART licenses enable a variety of capabilities.

GigaVUE‑HC3 nodes with a GigaSMART module installed can take advantage of GigaSMART’s advanced processing features, including slicing, masking, source port features, de-duplication, header stripping, advanced tunneling, FlowVUE, Adaptive Packet Filtering (APF), Application Session Filtering (ASF), NetFlow generation, SSL decryption for out-of-band tools, GTP filtering and correlation. Refer to the GigaVUE-OS CLI Reference Guide for more information on the GigaSMART features.

The SMT-HC3-C05 module can be used standalone or combined with other GigaSMART modules in a cluster. Because each GigaSMART module has its own compute engine, additional modules may be added as more compute power is required. The processing is not limited to the ports on the module. GigaSMART functionality is available to all ports within a clustered environment.

In addition to GigaSMART capabilities and two GigaSMART engine ports, the SMT-HC3-C05 module also has five 100Gb/40Gb ports.

The 100Gb ports with QSFP28 transceiver on the SMT-HC3-C05 module can be broken out into four times 25Gb ports, called 4x25G mode.

Note:  To support 25Gb functionality, the GigaVUE‑HC3 node must be equipped with Control Card version 2 (CCv2).

For details about the supported transceiver, cable type, fanout, inline ports, and clusters, refer to GigaVUE-OS Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix.

SMT-HC3-C05 Notes and Rules

Keep in mind the following notes and rules when using the SMT-HC3-C05 module:

Transceivers

For details about the supported transceiver, cable type, and connectivity specifications, refer to GigaVUE-OS Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix.

Maximum SMT-HC3-C05 Modules Per Chassis

The maximum number of SMT-HC3-C05 modules per chassis is four if power is available. Refer to Power Management. Each module can support up to five 100Gb ports, for a total of 20.

Note:  If all modules in the chassis are 100Gb, there are no 10Gb/25Gb ports with which to connect tools. 10Gb/25Gb ports are only available when ports are in 4x10Gb/4x25Gb mode and require a QSFP+ transceiver.

Refer also to Port Modes for SMT-HC3-C05.

Network, Tool, Hybrid, or Stack Ports

The 40Gb/100Gb/4x10Gb/4x25Gb ports on the SMT-HC3-C05 module can function as network, tool, hybrid, or stack ports.

Stack-Links

The SMT-HC3-C05 module on GigaVUE‑HC3 can connect to all GigaVUE HC Series nodes that support 40Gb/100Gb through a 40Gb/100Gb stack-link.

For details about the clustering support, refer to GigaVUE-OS Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix.

Inline Ports

The ports on the SMT-HC3-C05 module can be configured as inline network or inline tool ports, supporting logical bypass on 40Gb, 100Gb, 4x10Gb and 4x25Gb ports.

For details about the supported inline ports, refer to GigaVUE-OS Compatibility and Interoperability Matrix.

Ports c1..c5or c1x1..c1x4 toc5x1..c5x4

The SMT-HC3-C05 module includes five 100Gb ports (c1..c5). These ports also support 40Gb speeds.

Any 100Gb ports on the SMT-HC3-C05 module can be broken out into 4x25Gb ports, called subports. The subports will all have the same speed (25Gb). Subports will have x1 to x4 appended to their port ID, for example, 1/1/c2x1. The parent port must be configured to have a port breakout mode of 4x25Gb

Any of the 100Gb ports on the SMT-HC3-C05 module can operate at 40Gb with a QSFP+ transceiver. A 40Gb port can be broken out into 4x10Gb ports, called subports. The subports will all have the same speed (10Gb). Subports will have x1 to x4 appended to their port ID, for example, 1/1/c2x1. The parent port must be configured to have a port breakout mode of 4x10G.

Once a port has been broken out into subports, cable it to an optical patch panel or breakout panel, such as PNL-M341, which takes input from the SMT-HC3-C05 module and splits it to four independent output ports. Refer to Breakout Panels.

Port Modes for SMT-HC3-C05

The port breakout modes are as follows:

■   4x10Gb—Specifies the 4x10Gbport breakout mode. This mode provides a 4 x 10Gb breakout option for 40Gb ports.
■   4x25Gb—Specifies the 4x25Gb port breakout mode. This mode provides a 4 x 25Gb breakout option for 100Gb ports.
■   none—Specifies no port breakout mode. This is the default mode for GigaVUE HC Series nodes.

In 4x10Gb/4x25Gb mode, the subports can function as network, tool, hybrid, stack ports, and GigaStream port members.

The maximum number of 10Gb ports on a SMT-HC3-C05 module is 20 (5 ports per module x 4 subports per port). If four SMT-HC3-C05 modules are inserted in GigaVUE‑HC3, the maximum number of 10Gb ports is 80 (20 x 4).

The maximum number of 25Gb subports on a SMT-HC3-C05 module is 20 (5 ports per module x 4 subports per port).

Note:  Each port can only have one mode.

There are rules for configuring parent ports and subports. For more information, refer to the port command in the reference section of the GigaVUE-OS CLI Reference Guide.

Once the port breakout mode has been configured, refer to Breakout Panels.
