License Models
Gigamon offers various licensing models based on how the license is bound to the deployment and how long the license remains valid.
In addition to how licenses are bound, Gigamon licenses are also categorized by duration:

Fixed Licensing Model |
This model is also known as Node-locked licenses. This model ties the license to a specific hardware component, either a card or device serial number. The license remains fixed to that hardware and cannot be moved. |

Flexible Licensing Model |
This model is also known as Floating licenses. Licenses are not attached to a specific card or device. They can be moved or reassigned across cards within a device or even across devices, offering greater deployment flexibility. GigaSMART application licenses can be moved across the devices or cards. You can move licenses only within the same device type. |
License file with pooled floating licenses is generated in License Portal, and imported into GigaVUE-FM through GUI. You can manage the licenses using GigaVUE-FM. Automatic renewal of licenses is supported. |

This model is based on usage volume. |
